3 New Ways to Serve Bacon
As if we need new ways to serve bacon…most of us are fine with plain strips of crispy fried bacon any time of day. But alas, some of us must limit our consumption of the crispy fried pork fat and when it is crumbled in another recipe, it just seems to be more in quantity and satisfying to the desire for bacon. Stretch the bacon flavor while limiting the fat total in your diet with these 3 new ways to serve bacon.
No-Bake Bacon Donuts
Did I have you at ‘no bake’ or ‘bacon’? Buy your favorite plain cake donut (pound cake works too) and mix up this bacon and maple glaze to go on top – Fry a few strips of bacon until crispy. Cool, crumble and set aside. Stir 2 cups of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk and a drizzle of pure maple syrup together in a medium bowl. Place cake donuts (or sliced pound cake) on a platter in a single layer, spoon glaze over top then sprinkle with crumbled bacon.
Chocolate Chip Bacon Cookies
This bacon recipe does require baking, but you can use already prepared chocolate chip cookie dough to make it easier.
Make or buy your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough. Fry a few slices of bacon until crispy, cool and crumble. Place cookie dough in a mixing bowl, add crumbled bacon, stir to combine. Bake cookies as usual.
Bacon and Apples
Fry a few slices of bacon until crispy. Cool and crumble. Peel and dice your favorite apple. Melt two tablespoons of butter in a skillet, add diced apples and cook until apples soften. Stir in crumbled bacon and cook until hot, about one minute. Serve hot bacon and apples over pancakes, waffles, French toast, oatmeal or use to top a bran muffin.
